General Questions

V? Never heard about it. What does it do?

V stands for vHost-Bot and is your interface to custom vHosts. A vHost is used to hide your original host in order to prevent being flooded by others, but of course vHosts can also be used to create a custom hostmask to distinguish from others.

How does it work?

You can view existing hosts and request new ones using our website. After your new vHost has been accepted by an oper, login to your X auth and then “/msg V sethost ident@host“. Once you have done this, you will be confirmed that your hidden host is active as the server will send you a notice similiar to "ident@host :is now your hidden host" Other users will see you quit with "Host change" as reason and then rejoin all channels you are in with your new host. We recommend you set this mode before joining any channels for maximum security.

I did “/msg V sethost ident@host“, how do I get my old hostname back?

Once a vHost has been set, it may not be deactivated. The only way to get your original host back is to reconnect to IRC, or if you are using a bouncer, "jump" it.
