IRC Questions
Can I register my nickname on Inside-IRC?
Sorry, we don't provide nickname registration services, such as NickServ, on Inside-IRC. As a result of this, you can't register your nickname on our network. If a nickname is available, any user is allowed to use it.
I'd like to have the nickname “Nickxyz”, but its already in use! Can you give me this nick?
No. Since you can't register a nick on our network, even if it's your auth name on X, everybody can take it while you're not using it. Please consider using another nickname or wait until yours is free.
What is a mask?
A mask is a way of combining user data into a way which can be used in channel bans, ignore masks, etc. A mask is constructed in the following way: nickname!ident@host
Masks also allow the use of 'wildcard' characters. These are characters with special meanings.
- ? matches a single character
- * matches any number of letter and characters, including no characters at all.
You may have already noticed that some users have a tilde character (~) before their ident. This means that the IRC server did not receive an ident response from their client. You'll need to include this character in masks.
What services does Inside-IRC provide?
At the moment, Inside-IRC provides two requestable channel services for users. Their nicks are X and A.
X
X is the channel management service on our network. For more information, see the X bot FAQ
A
A is Inside-IRC's anti-spam service. It detects spam and other type of flood in channels, and issues kills and G-lines to the spammers. A is meant only for big channels. For more information, please see the A bot FAQ.
In addition to these two, there is another service available:
V
V is your interface to custom virtual hosts. For more information, please see the V bot FAQ.
Note that there are plenty of other services as well, but the rest of them isn't available to users.
